ST campaign on in full swing at Delhi

The Meetei (Meitei) Tribe Union (MMTU) has said that they have met some influential people as part of the Nationwide campaign to enlist Meeteis in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) list of the Constitution of India.
The Union, in a statement signed by its organisation secretary Takhellambam Parijat, elaborated that they called on Chairman of National Commission for Minorities Iqbal Singh Lalpura, social activist Rami Niranjan Desai and AICC North East-in charge Girish Jah recently and sought their support in the movement which seeks to safeguard the social, political and economic rights of the Meeteis.
MMTU continued that Amrik Singh Pahwa, a Manipuri bom Sikh is taking active part in their campaign and he endorses the legitimate ST status demand by the Meeteis.
It further stated that Amrik Singh Pahwa has been conveying the need to grant ST tag to Meeteis to Sikh leaders including Iqbal Singh Lalpura.
The Union also said that they got a positive response from Rami Desai.
About the meeting with Rami Desai, the Union said that the social activist strongly advocates enlistment of Meeteis in the ST list.
As per Rami Desai, Meeteis demand for ST status is their birthright and no community should oppose it, MMTU said adding that the social activist also sought support from them in resolving the crisis in Manipur first.
The Union went on to state that they have met AICC North East-in charge Girish Jah and the latter has assured to make an arrangement for MMTU leaders to meet party president Mallikarjun Kharge.
MMTU also said that they called on Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee president K Meghachandra and AICC member N Bhupenda before meeting Girish Jah.
Saying that they have got the appointment to meet some Union Ministers, MMTU added that they may be able to meet the Tribal Affairs Minister tonight.
