Imphal, September 18 2013:
A rifleman of 5th Bn Manipur Rifles has reportedly been taken into custody by Tamenglong police station based on a complaint by parents of a 7-year old girl student accusing the security personnel of attempting to rape the minor girl.
Speaking to The Sangai Express, the parents hailing from Khoupum of Tamenglong district contended that their daughter Sonia (not real) managed to escape from the clutches of 5 MR rifleman L Iboyaima Singh of Khurai Ningthoubung Leikai as the accused person started to misbehave with the school girl.
It is said that Iboyaima, a replacement driver of the mR battalion, was on September 9 assigned to transport school children from the battalion's Khongjaron campus to their school located about 5 kilometres away.
As sonia returned to the school bus after appearing for her class examination at around 12 pm Iboyaima allegedly showed indecent clippings from his mobile phone and made amorous advances, who descended from the vehicle as the accused person left to buy candy to pacify the girl when she cried in resisting the MR man's attempt.
After running into a nearby house and narrating the incident the house-owner, who also happens to be a personnel of 5 MR, and other locals raised the matter to the Battalion's Assistant Commandant, continued the parents who construed that the unit officer was reluctant to take prompt action against the accused Iboyaima as he (AC) claimed the case to be a complex one.
The parents then decided to register an FIR at Tamenglong police station the same afternoon subsequently resulting in the rounding up of the accused person in the evening.
Conveying that they have information about the case being taken up by Imphal West district police and confiding that the incident has been apprised to the Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam on September 16 followed by the victim's family given statement before the Chandel District Magistrate today, the parents cautioned that failure to initiate appropriate punitive action against the accused would constraint the parents to seek help of NGOs in launching intense agitation against the Government.
They also sought the cooperation of organisations working to protect child rights to ensure that the culprit do not escape stringent punitive action for committing crime against the minor girl.
