NSCN-K today claims hand s on yesterday' s ambush to Assam Riffle personnel at Mon district of Nagaland.
Two Assam Rifles personnel were killed and four other were seriously injured in yesterday ambush claimed by the NSCN-K.A statement issued by Col (Rtd) Isak Sumi, Dy .Kilonser , MIP , GPRN said that the attack was carried out as a part of the series of the ongoing "Summer Offensive" to sanitise the land against the illegal deployment of occupational Indian forces and to rein in their illegal activities, provocative movements there by wrecking havoc, perpetrating terror and disturbances of peace and tranquillity in the Naga country .
"The Naga Army attacked the armed patrol of Indian Security Forces near Aboi town in the afternoon today and slew more than six(6) soldiers on the spot and injured the equal number", the statement added.
The statement said that earlier attack at Shengha Lampong, two Indian soldiers were killed and two others including the unit Commander in the rank of Major were also injured, however , the attack was precise and discriminate targeting only the Indian Forces exclusively and the local village guards residing nearby were not harmed as intended albeit alleged by some anti-national elements.
PRO to Inspector General Assam Rifles, Major Vincent Patton yesterday said that the incident occurred at around 3PM when armed cadres ambushed the six Assam Rifles personnel who were on patrolling duty .
He said that they were ambushed in midway , wherein two of them identified as Havildar Fateh Singh Negi and sepoy Hungnga Konyak were martyred on the spot while four others sustained critical bullet injuries.
The PRO said that involvement of suspected Naga underground groups in the ambush is yet to be confirmed while there have no claims made by any group.
Sources also said that Assam Rifles jawans also retaliated but casualty if any on the other side is also not ascertained.
