Imphal, September 17 2024:
Education Minister Thounaojam Basantakumar Singh has appealed to all sections of people to extend their support and cooperation in making education a disturbance-free zone.
He also urged the students to refrain from taking part in non-academic activities such as meetings and rallies.
Addressing a press conference held at the auditorium of the Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) to day, Basantaumar said that the Government has taken note of the viral post on social media which called on the students to assemble at Dhanamanjuri University campus tomorrow to discuss the prevailing situation in Manipur.
Saying that that said post doesn't specify the name and signature of any organisation and union, the Minister stated that he does not encourage students to participate in the said meeting.
It is an attempt by anti-social elements to disrupt the learning environment, the Minister said referring to the viral post.
The Dhanamanjuri University Student's Union and a conglomerate of six student organisations have clarified that they are not associated in any way with the rally planned for tomorrow, he added.
Basantakumar continued that a group with no official identity or affiliation with any recognised organisation is allegedly attempting to destabilise the education sector.
Furthermore, the Minister warned that legal actions will be taken up against those participating in tomorrow's unauthorized rally.
He emphasised that the law enforcement agencies will take necessary actions against anyone found involved in activities that disrupt the education sector.
Commissioner (Education) Gyan Prakash; Director Education (S) L Nandakumar Singh, Imphal West Superintendent of Police Ksh Shivakanta Singh and Imphal East Superintendent K Meghachandra Singh also attended the press conference.
