Seminar on sports development concludes

The 3-day seminar on the Development of Sports in the North Eastern States held under the aegis of Manipur Olympic Association (MAO) and Youth Affairs and Sports Department, Government of Manipur concluded today at the MFDC Auditorium, Imphal.
The valedictory function was graced by Home minister, G.Gaikhangam; S.M.Bali, Joint Secretary , Handball Federation of India and Bijoy Koijam, President of Manipur Olympic Asociation as Chief Guest, Guest of Honour and President respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, Gaikhangam asserted that the seminar has been very helpful in identifying the immense talents procured by young players.
Despite facing financial and other problems, north eastern states have produced many talented players who had already earned laurels and glories for their motherland.
The recent London Olympics where 10 players from the north eastern states participated and winning one bronze medal is a perfect example, Gaikhangam added.
Addressing the importance of the seminar, Bijoy Koijam who is the president of MAO said that the seminar was the first of its kind in India while claiming that the state Manipur reigns the sports arena in the country.
Joint Secetary, Handball Federation of India, S.M.Bali said, "North eastern region is the powerhouse of sports, we are proud that ten players from the region have participated in the London Olympic games It is also equally important that a player has to be mentally free and we should take care of them.
The government needs to develop many sports academies for better performance not only the just proposed football academy " .
