Gen Dalbir Singh Suhag, Chief of the Army Staff is on a one day visit to Eastern Command, during which he visited Dimapur and Sukna.
During his visit the Army Chief emphasised on the need to maintain constant vigil along the borders, said a statement issued by PIB (Defence Wing).
He also directed that all operations in the hinterland must be people friendly and troops must be sensitised to uphold human rights and operate within the rules of engagement.
He appreciated the efforts made by troops of Eastern Command for the work put in to maintain peace and stability in the region, added the statement.
Earlier in the day an Army spokesperson said in Delhi, "The COAS left for North East to review the security situation." Immediately after reaching Dimapur, the Army Chief was briefed about the overall security situation, particularly the situation in Manipur, where militants had attacked an Army convoy on June 4, killing 18 soldiers, reports UNI from Delhi.
In a tit-for-tat action, the Army raided the two camps across the border deep inside Myanmar, where the ultras, believed to be behind the Manipur ambush, had taken refuge.
During his trip, the Army Chief is also expected to visit forward areas, including the areas along Myanmar border, sources said.
