Imphal, May 17 2020:
Prof AP Pandey spent Rs 20,91,897 in renovating Government quarters when he was serving as the Vice-Chancellor of Manipur University.
MU Administrator Jarnail Singh sent a letter to Prof Pandey on March 20 this year to repay the amount he spent in renovating Government quarters.
The letter pointed out that the quarters occupied by Prof Pandey when he was the VC belonged to the State Government and they should be renovated/repaired by the State Government, if necessary.
It was Prof Pandey himself who sanctioned the amount of Rs 20,91,897 from the coffer of Manipur University for repairing the Government quarters.
As such, the amount should be recuperated from Prof Pandey, Jarnail Singh asserted in his letter.
The same letter also asked Prof Pandey to return furniture items and electronic equipment worth Rs 9,86,057 he took to his quarters from MU back to the university.
Pointing out that Rs 8,40,000 withdrawn by Prof Pandey as advance for attending UGC and MHRD meetings using 15 bills between June 2017 and May 2018 has not been adjusted till date, the Administrator asked the former VC to repay Rs 10,27,780 after taking interest into account.
The letter further asked Prof Pandey to return documents of Manipur University, if there is any in the quarters he occupied.
The Administrator warned that appropriate action would be initiated if there is no positive response from Prof Pandey.
