Imphal, January 17 2017:
Names of around 20 BJP candidates may be announced on January 19 in the first phase for the 11th Manipur State Assembly election scheduled on March 4 and 8 .
According to information received by the press, BJP would hold Parliamentary Board meeting on January 19 before announcing the first batch of candidates.
The Parliamentary Board meeting would be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP National president Amit Shah, BJP Manipur Pradesh president K Bhabananda, State election management committee convenor Th Chaoba and party's other leaders who are in charge of Manipur.
BJP leaders in-charge of Manipur would table reports on the most prospective candidates as well as candidates who have been least objected during the meeting.
BJP has completed all preparations to announce the names of the first batch candidates after the reports are studied at the scheduled Parliamentary Board meeting.
Another meeting of the Parliamentary Board was held yesterday too with party president Amit Shah.
As full members of the Board did not turn up for the meeting, a preliminary meeting was held and candidates who faced least objections were selected.
The Parliamentary Board meeting scheduled on January 19 would study candidates recommended by BJP leaders who are in charge of Manipur and the recommended names may be announced as the party's first batch candidates.
Party candidates for the remaining Assembly segments may be announced in the first week of February.
Although BJP may reserve 2/3 seats for women, the party is unlikely to announce its Chief Ministerial candidate.
In view of the scheduled Parliamentary Board meeting, many intending candidates have rushed to Delhi and they have already started lobbying hard for party tickets.
