Imphal, October 16:
Encroachers squatting on government land in the valley districts in the state are to be regularized and brought under the revenue umbrella.
A meeting was held in this connection at the office of the commissioner, revenue, Shambhu Singh today.
According to sources, the deputy commissioners of Imphal east and west, Thoubal and Bishnupur districts who attended the meeting have been asked to prepare lists of such encroachers and to be submitted within a period of seven days.
Such encroachments are to be regularized and brought under the revenue umbrella while keeping in mind the requirements of the public utilities and public interest.
Encroachers who have been holding dag chithas for a long period will be screened and those whose encroachments are against public interest or involve violation of laws would be evicted.
Regarding the allegations of encroachment upon a public road by a wall built around the proprietary of the advisor (K) to the Governor located at Sanjenthong, the concerned DC has been asked to conduct a resurvey.
