Senapati, December 15 2014:
The United Naga Council (UNC) has strongly condemned the statement of Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam who allegedly branded the UNC as anti-people and anti-development.
In its presidential council meeting at Riha Tangkhul village, Ukhrul district today the UNC said it seriously views and condemns the 'irresponsible' statement of Gaikhangam for branding the UNC as anti-people and anti-development on December 9, 2014 at Tamenlong headquarters.
The meeting decided that he should be held solely responsible for any consequence arising out of his statement, it said.
According to UNC, it is the apex body of the Nagas in Manipur spearheading a democratic movement of the people.
While reiterating its solid support to the on-going Indo-Naga peace talk, the meeting urged the Government of India to exercise its political will for the earliest logical conclusion.
"The meeting seriously views the political policy of the Government of Manipur in its attempt to grab the land and resources of the Naga and tribals in the name of readjustment of police district boundary through an order on June 14, 2011 issued by the Home Department, Government of Manipur," the UNC stated.
The meeting decided that such ill motive agenda being pursued by the Government of Manipur will not be allowed and accepted in Naga areas.
"Therefore, the attention of the Government of India is drawn for its timely political intervention," it said.
