Imphal, November 15 2015: Everyone is free to follow a religion of their choice for in the end there is but only one destination, Chief Minister O Ibobi said at the closing event of the Diamond jubilee celebration of MBC Centre Church today.

MBC Centre Church's two-day diamond jubilee celebrating concluded today at the Church premises at Chingmeirong.

Attending as chief guest, the Chief Minister said Manipur being a part of a democratic Nation allows its citizen to choose and promote any religion of their choice.

Everyone is the same in the face of death.

There is no superior or inferior religion, the CM said.

"Religion is like an atom bomb.

Let us not define one another by religion," Ibobi stated.

Hinduism is a new religion for the people of the State, he said and added that the Manipuri Meiteis have not always followed Hinduism, he said.

Researchers believe that while Hinduism was introduced 250 years back, Christianity came later about 185 years ago.

"What religion the Manipuris followed before Hinduism and Christianity crept in is not clear but there is only one God and that God does not teach one to perpetrate wrongdoings", he said.

The CM further assured to provide assistance in upgrading the sound system of the Church.

Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam also attended the closing function.
