Driver, handyman killed in highway mishap

Imphal, May 15 2022:
A driver and a handyman of a truck transporting food grains for FCI were killed when the truck plunged into Likhru River gorge from a dilapidated bridge located between Makhan Tabio and Chakumei village, Senapati district today.
Drawing attention of the authority concerned to the dilapidated bridge, angry locals and truck drivers of Mao blocked the National Highway for some hours.
The road was opened after local MLA L Dikho give assurance to take all possible steps to develop Likhru Bridge at the earliest.
The local people said that the bandh will be reimposed if no tangible steps are taken on an urgent basis.

Sources informed that the truck plunged into the Likhru river gorge and landed above another truck which was lying there since May 12 .
Notably, another truck plunged into the same gorge from the same dilapidated bridge on May 12 killing the driver while the handyman went missing.
The handyman who was killed today was identified as Manoranjan Kumar (19) s/o Ramial Mahto of Champaran, Bihar.
The driver who is only identified as Rajeshwor remained missing till the time of filing this report.
Our Senapati Correspondent adds: The handyman of the ill-fated truck which plunged into the Likhru gorge on May 12 who had been missing since then was found dead today.
Some local people and volunteers found the dead body in Likhru River and it was retrieved from a place called Liisa Che.
Meanwhile, condoling the demise of the handyman, the Makhan Union president Ashuli Apil has conveyed solidarity to the bereaved family.
