Notably, in a statement, RNCM president stated that the executive decision to impose the shut down was made in the aftermath of the highly condemnable firing incident of March 14 when troopers of 6 Assam Rifles had a tussle with the village womenfolk.
According to the shutdown order, the Rongmei Naga Students Organisation Manipur (RNSOM) and Rongmei Naga Youth Organization Manipur (RNYOM) were given full authority to execute the shutdown declaration at their own discretion while keeping the RNCM Central Committee informed about the progress.
Terming the indiscriminate firing perpetrated by 6 AR as "crazy, inhuman, selfish and cowardly", RNCM stated that being in a democratic country, 6 AR should respect the sentiments of the people.
RNCM also accused the 6 AR of "bringing an atmosphere of terrorism instead of peace" .
Reportedly, a decision was also made to boycott 6 AR activities from all Zeme, Liangmai, Rongmei and Inpui Naga jurisdictions.
