Imphal, February 15 2016: Mysuru has emerged the cleanest city among all million plus capital cities even as Imphal managed to secure the last place out of 15 cleanest cities selected from across the country.

Dhanbad in Jharkhand has been ranked the worst.

Prizes were distributed to the winning cities by Union Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu at the Media Centre, New Delhi.

For Imphal, the prize was received by MAHUD Director N Geetkumar and Imphal Municipal Corporation Executive Director Ng Uttam.

Imphal was awarded the prize in the category of 'Top mover in North East' .

These are findings of the first ever cleanliness ranking of cities since Swachh Bharat Mission was launched in October 2014.Results are based on the marks scored in respects of the main components of Swachh Bharat Mission, availability of infrastructure and service levels related to sanitation such as individual household toilets, public and community toilets and collection, transportation and processing of municipal solid waste.

The 15 cities selected from across the country are Mysuru, Chandigarh, Tiruchirapalli, New Delhi Municipal Council, Visakhapatnam, Surat, Rajkot, Gangtok, Pimprichindwad, Greater Mumbai, Pune, Navi Mumbai, Vadodara, Ahmedabad and Imphal.
