Imphal, November 14 2013:
MPCC president and Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam has condemned the assassination of MPP vice-president H Manisana in the strongest term.
He also conveyed solidarity to the bereaved family.
Speaking to media persons at Congress Bhavan here today, Gaikhangam said that even wild animals would not indulge in such violent and mindless act.
Saying that the fate of H Manisana may befall upon any politician of the State, the Deputy Chief Minister exuded confidence that the assassins can be pulled up very soon.
Violence and criminal activities would not bring anything positive to the society.
Police alone cannot tackle crimes.
It needs collective effort of the society to control crimes.
Only when crimes are put under effective control, the society can attain a trajectory of peace and progress, Gaikhangam asserted.
Assuring assistance to the bereaved family from his and Government's side, Gaikhangam prayed that such brutal incidents do not ever happen again.
To a query raised by reporters, the Deputy Chief Minister slammed the practice of calling bandhs/blockades and prohibiting execution of projects in pursuit of certain aspirations/demands.
Terming it unfortunate that ATSUM has been prohibiting execution of the railway project in pursuit of their certain demands, Gaikhangam said that only dialogue, not bandhs and disruptions, would bring solutions.
Banning the railway and other projects is like putting a big spanner on the path of Manipur's development.
Banning such projects would turn out to be anti-people.
He also asked all concerned not to do anything that would breed difficulties for the mass and the society.
Gaikhangam pledged that he would work to bring a solution to the many demands of ATSUM in consultation with the Chief Minister.
