Saying that the Abonmai was a courageous leader who believed in the unity and integrity of Manipur and India, the Chief Minister said and added that the killers, whichever group they belong to, would never achieve their goal because the Almighty would never listen to those who terrorise people and take the lives of fellow humans.
Further stating that actions compelled by such 'satanic conception' would lead to nowhere, N Biren Singh said that the death of Abonmai would not go in vain but strengthen the sense of integrity among the people.
The CM also said that he had apprised Union Home Amit Shah about the gruesome incident during his visit to the National capital recently, following which the latter immediately talked to the Union Home Secretary to hand over the case to NIA.
Maintaining that it was one of the fastest actions the Central Government had ever taken in handing over a case to NIA, N Biren Singh pointed out that the Central Government and the State Government are with Abonmai's family.
He also expressed confidence that the Centre would never spare the perpetrators.
"Though the case has been handed over to the NIA, the State police would provide vital clues and inputs to the investigative agency to bring the case to a logical conclusion," the CM added.
Wife of Athuan Abonmai, Philawon Abonmai said that her husband was murdered for speaking the truth.
Saying that Athuan Abonmai often expressed desire for his body to be buried at the valley and asked his family members to always work for the unity of Manipur while he was alive, Philawon Abonmai said that Athuan Abonmai had sacrificed his life for the State and her people.
Convenor of JAC Againt the Murder of Athuan Abonmai Majabung Gangmei urged the Government to find the truth of the incident and book the 'killers' at the earliest.
Forest and Environment Minister Awangbow Newmai, Education Minister S Rajen, Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba, leaders of different civil society organisations and a large number of people also took part in the funeral service cum condolence programme.
