RIMS basks under progress made in last 51 years

The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal observed its 51st foundation day at its jubilee hall at Lamphelpat today.
At the observance, RIMS Director Prof A Santa read out the report of the healthcare institute for the year 2021-2022 and released a journal of the Medical Society, RIMS after lighting the ceremonial lamp.
New office bearers of Medical Society, RIMS were also introduced during the function.
Dr Santa said that RIMS is the only medical college from North East to figure amongst the top 50 medical institutions of India in the last four consecutiv years in NIRF ranking released by the Ministry of Human Resource Development.
He further stated that RIMS received the "District Green Champion Certificate" from the Ministry of Education for setting up Swachhta Action Plan Committee and implementation of best practise in the areas of sanitation, hygiene, water management, energy management and greenery management recently.

Five Modular OTs with all state-of-art accessories viz CCTV, locker OT table, modular laminar air flow , medical gas pipeline have been installed in the OT complex of RIMS, he added.
While expressing happiness in taking part in the observance, the RIMS Director maintained that RIMS is one the best equipped healthcare institutes in North East India.
He also opined that RIMS can render better service if the physicians can build better relationships with the patients.
Saying that there are indeed some challenges which need to be tackled, he expressed hope that the RIMS will become a better institute in future.
A cultural programme was also held as a part of the observance .
The health care institute was established in 1972 as Manipur Medical College (MMC) .
Before the launch of MMC, then Union Home Minister YB Chavan opened a general hospital with a capacity of 300 beds at the same place where RIMS is situated today in 1968, following which then Manipur Governor BK Nehru and Chief Minister Mohammed Alimuddin laid the foundation stone to set up MMC on May 22, 1972 .
MMC was renamed Regional Medical College on September 14, 1974 before changing its name again to North Eastern Regional Medical College and was administered by North Eastern Regional Medical College Society (NERMCS) .
The health care institute was again rechristened as Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) on April 1, 1995 .
