Imphal, July 14 2015 : The Tangkhul Aze Katamnao Long (TAKL) has strongly condemned the State Government's silence regarding displacement of villagers and submergence of vast tract of land of Ramrei, Chadong and Louphong villages due to Maphou dam project.

In a statement, TAKL said that the displaced villagers are facing untold sufferings.

It further said that the dam was constructed without the consent of the villagers and civil society organisations of the affected areas.

Saying that around 8000 people of 22 villages would be displaced in Ukhrul and Senapati districts, TAKL said that homestead and agricultural lands of six villages would be completely submerged when the project is fully commissioned.

Regarding the matter, TAKL urged the Government to immediately look into the grievances of the affected villagers.
