Imphal, November 13 2019:
The Chief Minister's refusal to convene an Assembly session has sidelined the people's interest.
This is a clear indication that the Government has no interest in taking concrete stand to protect the State's integrity, asserted Congress MLA Kh Joykisan today.
Speaking to media persons at his residence at Khoyathong, the Congress MLA said that the State Government should convene an Assembly session at once to safeguard the administrative and political integrity of Manipur.
The apprehension that the Government of India may adopt a divisive policy for separate administrative and financial structure within the State is a matter of grave concern.
The State Assembly should take a concrete stand on this matter to save Manipur from shattering into pieces, he said.
Questioning the refusal to hold an Assembly session, he said that if the State Government is so confident that the State's integrity would not be affected by the final outcome of the Naga peace process, the Chief Minister should declare before the people that the Government is taking full responsibility of all the outcome.
"The demand for holding an Assembly session is to take a clear and firm stand against any attempt to compromise with the integrity of State.
The refusal to hold the Assembly session is against people's aspiration.
If the outcome of the peace process affects the State's integrity, the Government should bear sole responsibility," said Joykisan.
The MLA further accused the BJP of not living upto its promises and reminded that before the last Assembly election, BJP's National secretary Ram Madhav had declared that the party would not form alliance with the NPF (Naga People's Front) but, later after declaration of the results, it formed an alliance with the NPF.
The State BJP had wooed voters in the name of repealing Armed Forces Special Powers Act, but after coming to power, the Chief Minister during the Assembly session had said that the Government will not be repealing the Act citing law and order situation, he said.
The BJP led Government has failed and people have lost trust in it, he said.
The State Government should understand the plight of the people at this crucial juncture and hold an Assembly session.
This not the time to celebrate the Sangai Festival when the State's fate is uncertain with the Naga issue and the possible return of the Citizenship Amendment Bill, said Joykisan.
It may be noted that the winter Parliament Session is due to begin from November 18 and the Centre may introduce the Citizenship Amendment Bill for its passage in Parliament.
