MP Dr R K Ranjan stresses media's role in achieving government's developmental initiatives

Press Information Bureau, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, Imphal organised a one-day media workshop 'Vartalap' on the theme ' How to make our cities better' at the conference hall of Hotel Classic in Imphal, today.
The workshop was inaugurated by Director MAHUD, Harikumar, who lighted the inaugural lamp of the workshop in presence of Director PIB, Imphal Shri Abhishek Dayal, and other dignitaries.
In the morning session, four resources persons namely, Harikumar, Director (MAHUD), Smt Y Narmada Devi, State Mission Director, Town Planning Department, S M Manas Singh, Associate Town Planner gave a power point presentation on Smart City Mission ,Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) and Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transportation (AMRUT) and also Smt N Sabita, expert on Gandhian Thought delivered a speech on the subject and Gandhi's message for upliftment of masses.
The afternoon session was graced by Member of Parliament, (Lok Sabha) Dr R K Ranjan Singh and Director General of NEZ, PIB Shri LR Vishwanath as Chief Guest and Guest of honour respectively.
In his speech MP Dr RK Ranjan stated that media persons has a great role to play in dissemination of information pertaining to the implementation of different government schemes and policies.
He also urged upon the media persons to take the role of vigilant to achieve the goal of development and making Imphal a Smart City Mission.
"There is a great role to be played by media in the development of the capital city into a modern smart city.
Please do inseminate the initiatives being taken up by the government for the welfare and development of the state, and the capital city," he said.
While highlighting the initiatives of the government, media also need to have a close vigilant the implementing processes so as to point the flaws so as to give the government a chance to rectify the flaws.
At the same time, media also need to highlight the unwanted in the way of development like making the city neat and clean like people dumping waste at improper places.
It will able to create awareness to the people that their role is also indispensable in the government initiative of keeping the place neat and clean.
Only the media can create a sense of belongingness among the masses, he added.
MP said that while planning Smart City, problems of garbage and drainage management are faced.
All citizens should involves ourselves in cleaning and keeping our city clean.
He urges the media persons to be vigilant and take photograph of those who throw garbage on the road and get it published, so that such thing won't happen again.
Only then, people oriented city could be created he observed and also expressed his desire that a media persons should act as vigilance and make aware of the government projects and schemes being implemented by the government.
He appealed to the media personals to educate and make awareness to the general public to achieve a good future and bright Imphal city.
He also urges the media persons rather than simply reporting, to go for investigative reporting of all the developmental projects and facilities including PDS and DBT provided by the present govt.so that it can be known whether it reached to the needy people or delivered to the public, he added.
