CEOs discuss poll issues

Imphal, June 13 2011:
Chief Electoral Officers of different States, which are going to polls next year have discussed the finer details about preparations for the Assembly elections at Delhi under the auspices of the Election Commission of India during a meeting held recently.
Manipur will be going to polls next year together with Goa, Gujarat, Punjab, UP and Uttarakhand.
The CEOs of these States held a meeting at Delhi on June 9 .
State Chief Electoral Officer PC Lawmkunga was also present at the meeting.
On the other hand, the Election Commission has already instructed all these States to formulate activity plans for the Assembly elections.
When Manipur came up for discussion, the meeting focused more on security issues in view of the presence of insurgency movement in both the hills and valley, informed an official source.
The Election Commission has also directed the CEOs to conduct training programmes for Booth Level Officers, ROs and AROs.
The Commission has further asked the CEOs to rationalise polling stations, check EVMs and also to complete issuance of electoral photo identity cards.
Along with recruitment of necessary staff in the office of the State CEO ahead of the elections, January 1, 2012 has been fixed as qualifying date for electoral roll revision.
Final electoral rolls would be published on January 3, conveyed the official.
The meeting also deliberated on formulation of election plans at district level by the respective DCs/DEOs.
