Skill development to be introduced in State school syllabus: C Arthur

The two-day long 22nd General Conference of Tangkhul Katamnao Long Imphal (TKLI) kicked off on Thursday at Manipur Baptist Convention Recreation Centre, Dewlahland.
The programme was organised under the theme 'Together towards Tomorrow' and will conclude on November 13 .
Delivering his speech as the Chief Guest in the inaugural function, Director University and Higher Education and also the Chairman of Council of Higher Secondary Manipur (COHSEM) C Arthur stated that the Government of Manipur is planning to include skill development as a subject in the schools syllabus from Class IX to Class XII.
The Director said the subject will aim at providing skills to youth after passing Class XII so that they can avail job opportunities.
On the occasion, Arthur also urged the youth to generate ideas on preserving their cultures, traditions and
ways of life.
He also pointed out that the future depends on how the economic sector develops and the society needs skilled members to empower the economic sector.
He appealed the students to know "what is role that can be played in future" and "how to build a skilled society" besides identifying the roles that can be played to promote skills among the youth.
Meanwhile, TKLI President Thotchan R Shimray spoke on the theme, "Together towards Tomorrow" .
He stated that much needs to be done for generating a collective and responsible social life so that the youth can carve a niche for their future.
Thotchan said values should be inculcated based on traditions of collective living instead of engaging in self-aggrandizement and living a selfish life style.
He appealed the students to put in more efforts on academic endeavours and studies for a bright future.
