Thang-ta toppers

A felicitation programme for toppers and students scoring upto 90 pc and above in Thang-Ta subject in the HSLC Examination 2017, was held at Lamyangba Shanglen, under the aegis of Kanglei Indigenous Martial Arts and Cultural Society (KIMACS), today .
Health and Family Welfare, Art and Culture Minister, L Jayantakumar Singh, KIMACS president, Maibam Surjaboro Meitei and Parliamentary Secretary (Education and YAS), Kongkham Robindro Singh, attended the 2nd KIMACS Felicitation programme as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively .
Speaking at the event, L Jayantakumar Singh said that Thang-Ta is an art which can be taught to girls and women for self defence and thus decrease incidents of crime against women .
He stressed on the importance of preserving and improving the art of Thang-Ta and lauded the organisations which are working to preserve the art and culture of the State .
The Minister expressed happiness that traditional and cultural aspects of the State are surviving and even improving, despite low number of individuals working earnestly for the improvement of the said arts .
He also urged the people to refrain from turning cultural and traditional festivals of the State into trivial fun times, adding that culture and tradition are the identities of the people .
Jayantakumar further appealed to the people to work together to improve Thang-Ta and the various art of the State, in the interest of the generations to come.
