Pregnant woman falls victim to cops-protesters clash

A nine months pregnant woman has fallen victim to the violent protests and the strong police reactions witnessed in Kakwa and adjoining areas during the past two nights.
The woman is battling between life and death, and kept on ventilation in RIMS ICU at the time of filing this report.
The victim was admitted with suffocation and vomiting problems due to smoke from tear gas shells fired by security personnel to disperse protesters at Kakwa and adjoining areas under Singjamei police station last night.
One tear gas shell fired by security personnel fell just five metres away from the house of the victim at around 10.45 pm at Kakwa Naorem Leikai Lairembi Maning on Wednesday.
The victim has been identified as Laishram (N) Naorem (O) Sanjita (33) w/o Deepak of Kakwa Naorem Leikai Lairembi Maning.
As the smoke effused from the tear gas shell engulfed her house, Sanjita complained of suffocation and a burning sensation in the chest.
After a gap of some minutes, the victim started vomiting and her condition grew worse.
She was then taken to Advance Hospital and shifted to RIMS Hospital at around 3 pm today as her condition became critical.
The victim has been kept on ventilation in RIMS ICU and her condition is said to be critical.
Speaking to media persons at the local community hall today, Naharol Yaiphakol general secretary Naorem William condemned the act of firing tear gas shells and smoke bombs by security personnel in the congested residential area.
A strong protest has been raging in Kakwa and adjoining areas for the last two days, and the security forces responded by firing countless number of tear gas shells and smoke bombs.
Last night too, there was a protest at Kakwa demanding release of the protesters arrested by Singjamei police station during the students' protest on September 10.Naorem William said that the condition of the victim is very critical and her chances of survival is slim.
Yet, he prayed for her recovery.
He warned that they will be compelled to launch intense modes of agitation in association with the Singjamei to Lilong United Clubs Organisation and other organisations in case the victim does not survive.
