Imphal, June 12 2021:
State Government officials would negotiate with officials of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in the last week of June on a loan for construction of Imphal Ring Road.
It is being speculated that the 54 Kms (approximately) long ring road would cost around Rs 1200 crore against the earlier estimated cost of Rs 800 crore, sources informed.
The loan negotiation was earlier scheduled in February this year but it was deferred on account of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Nonetheless, State Government officials and ADB officials would negotiate and strike a deal on the loan in the last week of the current month and all efforts would be invested to hold necessary tender next month, according to the sources.
The first phase of construction of the Imphal Ring Road would begin in those areas where roads already exist.
The second phase would entail acquisition of land where necessary and construction of new roads would begin.
There is also the option of purchasing necessary land directly from land owners for a length of about 5 Kms instead of following the lengthy and tedious land acquisition process, said the sources.
The ring road would start from Imphal-Moreh highway at Kyamgei Pal Ahanbi and it would pass through Bashikhong, Ayangpalli, Porompat DC Road, Khurai, Heingang Ching and CMC Hospital, Koirengei.
From Koirengei, the ring road would make its way through Chingmeirong, Thangmeiband, Lamphelpat, Iroishemba, Langjing, Toubungkhok, Sangaiprou, Langthabal and Manipur University periphery before terminating at the starting point (Pal Ahanbi), said the sources.
