26th Convocation of IGNOU held in Imphal

Imphal, April 12 2013 :
As done in Sanchar Kendra, IGNOU Campus, Maidan Garhi, New Delhi with the President of India Pranab Mukherjee and the HRD Minister of State, Jitin Prasada as Chief Guest and President, the 26th Convocation of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) was also held at the Imphal Regional Centre of the institute at Jina cinema hall, North AOC here today.
The simultaneous convocation conducted through video conference at Jina cinema hall was graced by Education Minister Moirangthem Okendro as Guest of Honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister M Okendro pointed out that even though IGNOU is considered to be one of the reputed universities in the country and beyond, it is seldom acknowledged by the people in Manipur.
Here, people just looked upon it as just another institute imparting distance education to the people.

The people of the State should realize that a number of IAS and IPS in the country are products of IGNOU and there is no such rule that a person who had passed out from IGNOU cannot apply for State Government jobs, the Minister added.
Minister M Okendro further informed in addition to its present location at North AOC, the State Government has decided to provide a proper place for establishment of a branch of IGNOU in the State.
Out of the total 229 candidates enrolled in IGNOU Regional Centre at Imphal for various courses in the previous academic session, 86 of them were present and awarded their degrees and certificates during the convocation function today.
