Imphal, November 11 2024: Former rebel leader RK Meghen has categorically stated that absence of true leaders during times of crisis is evident in contemporary Manipur society.

He made the statement during the 29th death anniversary of NK Sanajaoba held at Singjamei Wangma Torban Kshetri Leikai.

The gathering offered floral tributes to the photo of NK Sanajaoba and later observed silence for two minutes in honour of all those who died amid the unrest in Manipur.

Speaking at the function, RK Meghen continued that Sanajaoba was also a revolutionary of integrity who never hesitated to stand for truth apart from being a pioneer of investigative journalism in Manipur.

He said that Manipur now needs a leader like Sanajaoba to effectively stand against the inimical forces which want to break the State apart.

Saying that a leader is not the one who is chosen and nor can he/she be found when searched for, he added that a true leader will surely emerge in Manipur to deal with the historical situation the State has been witnessing.

He also said that fellow Meeteis take on one another whenever there is lull in attacks and it clearly shows the absence of a true leader in the State.

Continuing that the people of Manipur, whether indigenous or not, need to take a collective resolution to safeguard the State, RK Meghen said that different communities living in Manipur need to respect the unique identity of one another.

He, meanwhile, said that NK Sanajaoba was the Editor of Lamyanba and a pioneer in investigative journalism in Manipur.

Convenor of Lamyanba NK Sanajaoba Ningsing Thoupang Lup Khomdram Ratan, delivering the keynote address, said that Manipur needs a leader who can awaken the people to stand against the aggression of narco terrorists.

Saying that Manipur has been suffering due to the absence of a true leader, he added that it was Sanajaoba who inspired a generation of people to stand against the misdeeds of the regime through his journal.

The anniversary was organised by Lamyanba NK Sanajaoba Ningsing Thoupang Lup under the supervision of NK Sanajaoba Memorial Trust South East Youth Organisation (SEYO) president Kshetrimayum Thoiba Singh, Thawai Meerel convenor Thongam Dara Singh , Apunba Khorilolgi Malemgi Lup president Waikhom Amuchou Meitei and Lamyanba NK.

Sanajaoba Ningsing Thoupang Lup chairman Waikhom Nageshwor Meitei also attended the programme.
