Rs 31.67 crore released

The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has so far released Rs 31.67 crore for compensation of farmers affected by the ongoing violent crisis in Manipur.
Replying to a question raised by Congress MP Dr Angomcha Bimol Akoijam in the Lok Sabha today, Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Ramnath Thakur said that the Ministry of Home Affairs sanctioned an overall package of Rs 209.45 crore to the Government of Manipur for running schemes of relief and rehabilitation for victims/persons affected by the ongoing law and order crisis.
This includes a compensatory package for farmers affected by the ongoing law and order crisis amounting to Rs 38.60 crore.
So far, an amount of Rs 31.67 crore has been released against this as per the request of the Government of Manipur.
Ramnath Thakhur said.
Earlier, Dr Bimol Akoijam asked whether the Government has assessed the extent of the losses faced by farmers in Manipur due to their inability to work on fields during the ongoing crisis and if so, the details thereof.
He further asked whether the Government has taken or plans to take measures to compensate farmers for their losses vis-a-vis the crisis, including financial assistance or other forms of support to address the affected farmers in Manipur.
