MEEU strike renders many areas power-less

Imphal, September 10 2021: Closure of MSPDCL's prepaid vending counters and abstinence from management works by electricity employees in the State against the Govern-ment's refusal to implement 7th Pay has severely affected the public.

There were reports and complaints of power outages in many localities owing to the strike of the electricity employees.

As a part of the ongoing protest of the electricity employees under the banner of Manipur Electricity Employees Union (MEEU), a protest demonstration was staged in front of Keisham-pat Power House today.

Placards inscribed with "Implement ROP, 2019 immediately" and "We demand 7th Pay" were used in the protest.

Speaking on the sideline of the protest, MEEU co-convenor Soraisam Sunnyboy decried that the State Government has turned a deaf ear to the demands of MEEU even though the union has submitted several memorandums in this connection.

He stated that the demands of the electricity employees are legitimate and fundamental as the employees in most Government departments have already enjoyed 7th Pay.

Expressing regret over causing inconveniences to the public by their ongoing protest, the co-convenor continued that the electricity employees would, however, continue their protest until the Government fulfils their demands.

He added that power supply maintenance for the health sector has been exempted from the purview of the ongoing protest/strike.
