Kuki militants attack CM's advance security team, two hurt
Source: The Sangai Express

Imphal, June 10 2024: Kuki militants made a daring attack on an advance security team of Chief Minister N Biren and inflicted injuries to a security personnel and one driver of the security convoy today at K Sinam village, along Imphal-Jiribam highway, about 26 Kms away from Imphal.

The advance security team led by 1st MR CO Dr S Ibomcha was travelling to Jiribam ahead of Chief Minister N Biren's visit to the district tomorrow.

The security convoy also included the Chief Minister's BMW car which N Biren would ride in Jiribam.

As the advance security team was moving along Imphal-Jiribam highway toward Jiribam this morning, they came under heavy attack as they were taking a U-turn just before reaching K Sinam village, located a few kilometres away from Kotlen at around 10.30 am.

Using sophisticated weapons, the Kuki militants attacked the security forces from three directions.

The Kuki militants also shouted many expletives taking the name of Meitei, said one security personnel who was travelling in the convoy.

In addition to a security personnel, one civilian driver who was requisitioned by the security team sustained bullet injury on the back side of his right shoulder.

A bullet grazed the left thigh of the security personnel identified as Ershad Ushman Khan (30) s/o Sahabuddin of Minuthong Golapati Maning.

The injured driver has been identified as Moirangthem Ajesh alias Bobo (32) s/o M Shyamjai of Thanga Ngaram Leikai.

Security personnel also fired back resulting in an exchange of fire which lasted for around 20 minutes.

Later the injured driver and the security personnel were evacuated from the spot for treatment in Imphal.

Soon after the attack, the suspected Kuki militants fled from the spot.

Reinforcement teams of State Police Commandos, Assam Rifles and CRPF personnel rushed to the ambush site and launched a massive search operation.

Although four bunkers built by Kuki militants were burnt down in the course of the operation, there was no report of any arrest.

As additional security forces reached the ambush site, no one was found in the surrounding villages.

They were found inside a nearby CRPF camp.

High ranking officers of Manipur Police are also presently stationed at New Keithelmanbi.

In connection with the daring attack, a case has been registered at New Keithelmanbi police station, said sources.

M Ajesh alias Bobo is currently undergoing treatment at Shija Hospital and his condition is said to be stable.

On the other hand, Chief Minister N Biren visited the injured personnel at Shija hospital soon after he landed at Imphal from Delhi.

The other injured security personnel has been admitted to RIMS.
