Imphal, February 10 2025: The Congress Party is not in favour of imposition of President's Rule or putting the Manipur Assembly under animated suspension, said Keisham Meghachandra, president, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) .

Speaking to media persons in Imphal, Keisham Meghachandra made an appeal for the appointment of a compassionate BJP MLA from the ruling party who is devoted to the people and capable of resolving the protracted conflict to fill the vacant Chief Minister's post.

He urged the Centre to ensure that legislators chosen by the people form the Government.

Regarding N Biren Singh's resignation yesterday, K Meghachandra asserted that even some BJP MLAs and Ministers were against the continuation of N Biren Singh as the Chief Minister.

He would have also lost the No Confidence Motion that the Congress Party was going to move at the now cancelled Assembly session.

N Biren Singh might have submitted his resignation to Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla in consideration of these circumstances, he added.

The MPCC president appealed for the appointment of a new leader as the Chief Minister and the formation of an efficient new Government to work out a solution to the Manipur crisis which is fast nearing the two years mark, besides claiming over 250 lives.
