Imphal, December 09 2024:
Some members of the JAC formed in connection with the disappearance/abduction of Laishram Kamalbabu inside the heavily fortified 57 th Mountain Division Headquarters, Leimakhong including the missing man's wife were detained by police.
Imagi Meira convenor Th Sujata who assisted the JAC in submitting a memorandum to the Governor has been arrested by police.
A team of the JAC Against the Missing of Kamalbabu including his wife and daughter came from Lamsang to lodge a complaint at the Raj Bhavan this afternoon.
But Imphal West District Police arrested some members of the JAC including Kamalbabu's wife Belarani but they were freed later.
On the other hand, Imagi Meira convenor Th Sujata who assisted the JAC and the family members of Kamalbabu in lodging a complaint at the Raj Bhavan was arrested by police from Imphal airport.
Speaking to media persons in front of Lamphel police station in the evening, JAC spokesman Moirangthem Ibopishak vehemently condemned the detention of JAC members and supporters including Kamalbabu's wife.
Instead of providing moral and emotional support to the worried woman whose husband has been missing since November 25, police treated Belarani and her associates like criminals, Ibopishak said.
This is a matter of grave concern, he added.
Even though those detained by police were later freed, she was taken to hospital for treatment.
The JAC and the family members came to Raj Bhavan to lodge a complaint and submit memorandums to the Chief Minister and Lok Sabha Member Dr Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, Ibopishak said.
"We did not create any disturbances to anybody.
I personally invited Imagi Meira convenor Th Sujata to help us", he said.
Sujata was supposed to go to Delhi in an afternoon flight and she went to the airport from Kangla.
"We were taken by surprise when we learnt that Sujata has been arrested", said the JAC spokesman.
One Meira Paibi leader condemned in the strongest terms the arrest of Th Sujata on fabricated charges.
She said that Sujata should not be persecuted on any false charge.
