Imphal, December 09 2008: The Child Welfare Committee, Imphal East district which had been empowered to deal exclusive as the final authority to dispose cases for the care, treatment and rehabilitation of the children and to provide for their basic needs and protection on human rights, has directed one Waikhom Ongbi Madhabi Devi w/o W tollen Singh of Khongman to the deposit a sum of Rs 100,000 at a joint account being opened under the directives of the Committee.

According to a Committee release, Madhabi Devi had received a total of Rs 150,000 as ex-gratia amount for the departed mother and father of 8-year old Master Ajit Singh.

The ex-gratia was provided to ensure education and other necessary expenditures after Ajit lost his parent namely Waikhom Joy Singh and W Bijaya Devi of Khongman in Imphal East district.

The Committee also expressed resentment that Madhabi Devi is yet to comply with a decree of the High Court for depositing the said amount to a joint account inspite of the fact that ex-gratia amount was already released on November 14, 2008 .
