Imphal, December 08 2024:
Terming it absurd and an act of incompetence on the part of the administrators if the Government is thinking that suspension of internet services can help maintain law and order, the Federation of Civil Society Organisations (FOCS) Manipur has come out strongly against the prolonged suspension of internet services.
It has been nearly one month since the Home Department suspended internet services in the valley districts after Hmar terrorists butchered many people including children at Jiribam in the most barbaric manner, FOCS said in a press release.
In this age of information technology, internet has been listed a? one of the essential commodities.
But the prolonged suspension of internet services has adversely affected a large number of professionals and business establishments, thereby giving a severe blow to the State's economy which is already reeling under the crippling impacts of the violent crisis.
Because of the prolonged suspension of internet services, a large number of youth have lost their jobs.
Considering the adverse impacts of the prolonged suspension of internet services, the Government must lift the suspension at the earliest, it said.
The Government's absurd idea of maintaining law and order by suspending internet services has only added fuel to the people's anger, it added.
