Loaded trucks reach Imphal, three burnt

Amid the ongoing economic blockade enforced on both the national highways, fuel tankers and other trucks loaded with various items, which were brought from Jiribam under security escort but remained stranded near Noney in Tamenglong district following landslides, finally arrived here today.
Information provided by the police said that 31 oil tankers and 249 trucks, all loaded but stranded at Noney area yesterday due to occurrence of landslides near Langkhom village have been escorted to Imphal today.
Inspite of the arrival of the loaded trucks, information recieved from the indian Oil Corporation Ltd's Imphal Office mentioned that present stock of petroleum will last for only eight days.
The stock position for diesel is also the same even though there is huge difference in daily requirement of the essential commodity.
With the daily requirement regarding LPG said to be 80 metric tonne the remaining stock position will last of only a day, the IOC report maintained.

It further expressed apprehension that in view of poor road condition on NH-53 and the ongoing economic blockade on both the national highways transportation of petroleum products into Manipur is likely to remain disrupted in case the situation remains unchanged in the coming days.
On the other hand, Ojeimang, who has undertaken fast unto death stir at Saikul over the demand for upgradation of Sadar hills to a full-fledged revenue has been hauled up by the police today morning and sent to jail.
Meanwhile, our Jiribam correspondent Jacob Pamei has reported that at least three goods laden trucks bound for Imphal from Jiribam have been burnt by suspected agitation supporters on the Imphal-Jiribam route near Shanti Khunou in the wee hours yesterday.
The registration numbers of the ill-fated trucks are MN05D-5474 (loaded with Potatoes), MN04A-0571 (loaded with cement) and AS25B-5682 (loaded with FCI rice) .
Notably, a post of the CRPF is located at Shanti Khunou, where the act of arson took place.
