State joins International Women's Day observance

The International Women's Day was observed across the State today.
All Manipur Women's Voluntary Association (AMAWOVA) and Kanglei Ima Lup (KIL) have also observed the International Women's Day at GM Hall and Manipur Press Club.
At GM hall, the programme organised by AMAWOVA was graced by Dr K Sushila, Director, Art and Culture, Manipur, L Memchoubi, president, Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba, Rose Mangshi Haokip, retd assistant professor, GP Women's College, L Kuneshwori Devi, HOD, Dept of History, Manipur University and Y Kunjarani, president, AMAWOVA as presidium members.

Speaking at the programme, L Memchoubi said, "International Women's Day commemorates the women's movement for civil, political and economic rights.
In Manipur, International Women's Day is observed to commemorate the movement against atrocities perpetrated upon the people including women of the State by armed forces under the Armed Forces Special Powers Act" .
"Since 1980, various Meira Paibi organisations have been closely working against various crimes committed on women.
Role of women/Meira Paibis is crucial in bringing peace and development in the State.
As such, people should take a moment together to comprehend the works of the Meira Paibis and extend support.
Let us all deliver our duties as responsible citizens of the State," Memchoubi said.
AMAWOVA president Kunjarani said, "In the State like ours which future is vague, role of women in building a tranquil and developed State is very crucial" .
It is our responsibility to come out and march hand in hand to fight crimes against women and suppression of women's rights, she added.
Kanglei Ima Lup (KIL) has also observed the International Women's Day at Manipur Press Club.
Dr K Sushila, RK Sanahanbi, president, KIL, H Ibotombi Khuman, National awardee, Ratana Ngasepam, DSP, Traffic, Imphal West and Naorem Binodini Devi, secy, Indian Association of Lawyers attended the programme as the chief guest, president and guests of hnour respectively.
