CSOs gear up for anti-AFSPA rally

Five civil organisations are all set to organise a protest rally against the reimposition of AFSPA in Manipur and with a call to end the crisis besetting the State on the occasion of International Human Rights Day on December 10.The organisations which will organise the public rally are All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO), Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur (PLAMPAM), All Manipur Women's Voluntary Association (AMAWOVA), Committee on Human Rights (COHR) and Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) .
Speaking to the media in this regard at Kwakeithel today, AMUCO general secretary Pratap Leishangthem said that the rally will commence from THAU Ground at Thangmeiband at 10 am.
He further said that the rally will proceed towards Nagamapal, Shamu Makhong and Kanglapat before culminating at Khuman Lampak.
Appealing to all the people of all communities to cease work for the day and take part in the rally so as to send a strong message to the Centre to repeal AFSPA and put an end to all forms of terrorism, Pratap added that the rally is also aimed at promoting the idea of unity among all communities residing in Manipur.
COHR chairman Phulindro Konsam, on the other hand, appealed to people of all communities not to call any bandh or blockade on December 10 and participate in the rally.
AFSPA is an inhuman ordinance under which many people have been killed, raped and tortured, he said and added that AFSPA should be repealed completely from Manipur.
