Drugs worth crores seized from different places

A team of Jiribam police, in its continuous drive at different parts of the district, seized 90,990 Tramadol Hydrochloride capsules along NH-37 at around 7.30 pm yesterday.
Speaking to media persons at a press meet held at Jiribam PS today, SP M Mubi said that the drugs worth around Rs 2,04,72,750 (two crore four lakh seventy-two thousand seven hundred and fifty) were found packed inside three cartons.
He said that an intense drive was carried out by a special team of Jiribam police at different areas along NH-37 after information was received regarding transportation of Tramadol Hydrochloride capsules along the route.

The drugs were found inside a four-wheeler vehicle along the highway and an individual was apprehended as well, he said, adding that the individual has been identified as Nongsaibam Raees alias Yaona (19) of Yairipok Toupokpi Sabal Leikai.
The arrested person revealed that the drug is avai- lable at around Rs 225 per capsule at Byrnihat of Meghalaya and the drugs were being transported to Myanmar through Moreh, the SP added.
He said that a case has been registered at Jiribam PS and further claimed that drug kingpin will soon be identified.
Later, SP M Mubi presented a cash award of Rs 50,000 to the team for their dedicated effort in seizing the drug.
In a separate incident, commando teams of Kak-ching district seized 90,000 WY tablets while conducting frisking and checking exercise at Pallel bazar at around 12.30 pm today.
An individual who has been identified as Thongja-thang Haokip alias Thang- boy was carrying the drugs wrapped in nine black polythene packets.
In each of the black packets, there were 10,000 WY tablets.
On further questioning, the individual revealed that he was carrying the contraband from Moreh towards Kangpokpi for one Hoinu Haokip (35) of Kangpokpi district.
Later, the seized drugs along with the individual were handed over to Kakching PS for further legal action.
On the other hand, Troops of Assam Rifles, in a major haul, seized drugs worth Rs 2.2 crore in Machi Sub-Division, Tengnoupal district yesterday.
A team of Assam Rifles intercepted a bike moving suspiciously in the early morning hours along Machi-Chelep road.
On being chased by the troops, the suspects on the bike fled away leaving behind two bags.
On checking the bags, 85 packets of brown sugar weighing 1.11 kgs in total, were recovered.
The assessed market value of the seized contraband is approximately Rs 2.2 crore and they were later handed over to Tengnoupal police, conveyed a press release issued by the PRO of Hqs IG AR (S) .
