Imphal, September 07 2014:
On account of the UNC's blanket ban on execution of all National projects and vehicular movements on all National and State highways, Kangpokpi-Mao section of Imphal-Dimapur highway wore a completely deserted look.
It has been four days since the UNC's ban came into effect.
Bandh supporters have been blocking all kinds of vehicular movements at Liangmei Taphou village and Mao Gate.
This reporter who travelled to Dimapur and back saw no vehicular movement between Kangpokpi and Mao except those related to religious functions, medical/emergency services and media.
However, markets and educational institutions located along the highway section were/are opened and functioning as usual.
Except for cars and vans embossed with the words 'school duty', 'patient' etc, no vehicular movement could be seen on the highway.
Bandh supporters could be seen at different points of the highway.
Meanwhile, the convoy of trucks which left Imphal last morning has reached Jiribam.
Oil tankers may start for Imphal from Jiribam tomorrow with security escorts, informed a source.
