'Hijacker' lynched to death

Imphal, August 06 2015:
While one individual who was riding a Honda Activa scooter sustained injuries as he was shot by some unidentified persons who allegedly were lying in ambush to hijack the scooter, the assailants were chased by local people and one of them was thrashed to death.
The incident happened at around 8.30 pm yesterday at Bengoon Ayangpalli Road, Imphal West district under Mayang Imphal police station.
Moulana Bashir Ahmad (35) s/o Asraf Ali of Bengoon Mamang Leikai was returning home from Uchiwa together with his son on a Honda Activa when he was stopped two unidentified youth.
They asked Bashir to leave behind his Activa but he refused.
In the next moment, one of the youth drew out a gun, opened fire at Bashir and ran away.
Bashir was hit by two bullets on the abdomen.
On hearing the gun shots and the shoutings, people of the neighbourhood rushed out and they took Bashir to hospital.
On searching the nearby paddy fields, one youth was caught hiding.
He identified himself as one Md Maner Khan Bogimayum (28) s/o Imam Ali of Irong Makha Maibam Palli.
From his disclosure, it was learnt that the one who had fled away was Md Rahman Bogimayum (28) s/o Fajur Rahman of Irong Chesaba Makha Leikai.
While one point 32 pistol recovered from the possession of Md Maner Khan was handed over to Mayang Imphal police station, the mob lynched him to death.
There have been instances of hijacking vehicles from the particular road earlier too, informed a source.
