Imphal, August 06 2013:
Agriculture Department employees today staged protest demonstration in front of the Department's Sanjenthong office complex to denounce unidentified persons launching bomb attacks at the private residence of Department officials.
It is said that Porompat residence of the Department's Deputy Director (Soil & Chemist) Ph Rajendro was attacked by unidentified persons on July 25 while last night a bomb was lobbed at the Moirangpurel residence of the Department's Bishnupur district office Field Assistant Pebam Sarat.
While the first attack resulted in destruction of some houseful properties, the attack at around 7.45 pm yesterday wounded some family members of Sarat.
Speaking to the protesting employees, Director (Agriculture) G Shamu Kabui strongly condemned the act of setting off the blasts and destroying household properties along with revealing that inspite of receiving calls from unknown callers on his mobile phone there has been no monetary demand to the Deputy Director.
With Sarat also not receiving any monetary demand from any UG group the bomb attack injuring the Field Assistant's family members is highly deplorable, said the Director who fervently appealed to all concerned to desist from such acts in the future.
Reminding that Agriculture exists for the poor peasants and pledging unstinted commitment in increasing food-grain production in the State, Shamu Kabui suggested that peaceful means be adopted to resolve any grievance.
