Court asks AR CO to produce body

Imphal, July 06 2013 : In response to a writ petition filed by Thuinilung Kamei, a division bench of High Court of Manipur has directed the CO of 10 AR, listed as Respondents No 4, to produce the body (corpus) of one Rajanlung Kamei before the Court on July 8 at 10.30am.The Court's order was passed on July 5 by a Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Abhay Manohar Sapre and his companion Judge, Justice N Kotiswar Singh, according to a statement issued by Human Rights Law Network.

The writ petition was filed by the elder brother of Rajanlung Kamei in connection with his illegal arrest and detention of his younger brother after being invited for a meeting by the CO of 10 AR at his Unit Post located at Longmai (Noney) in Tamenglong district on June 22 .

The detenu namely Rajanlung Kamei was kept under illegal confinement for several days by the CO of 10 AR until the releasing of a press statement by the PIB (DW) that appeared on June 27 in this paper that stated that the detenu had surrendered for fear of his life and safety after the encounter that happened at Songlung village on June 22 wherein six cadres of NSCN-K were killed, the HRLN statement said.

Having heard the submission of the counsel for the petitioner, Meihoubam Rakesh, the High Court of Manipur was pleased and satisfied to pass the order thereby directing the CO of 10 AR to produce the corpus by name Rajanlung Kamei before the Court at 10.30am of July 8 (Monday), it added.
