Imphal, December 05 2024:
Chief secretary Dr Vineet Joshi conducted a comprehensive review of the availability of health facilities and infrastructure-related issues in the valley districts of the state on Thursday, in the presence of special secretary (health & family welfare), director of health services, state mission director, deputy commissioners, chief medical officers, and state-level nodal officers.
During the meeting, the DCs and CMOs from the valley districts presented reports detailing the challenges faced in their respective areas, including shortages in human resources, infrastructure deficiencies, and specific district-level issues such as shortage of ambulances.
In response to these challenges, the chief secretary issued several directives to address the problems effectively.
The special secretary (health & family welfare) and director of health services were tasked with developing a model for optimising the deployment of available human resources, including specialists, medical officers, nurses, and technicians, to fill critical gaps in the healthcare system.
DCs were directed to take an active role in reviewing the performance of health facilities in their districts.
This review is to be conducted in close coordination with the CMOs to ensure effective oversight and management.
State-level officers were instructed to assess and review ongoing infrastructure development projects and prepare a comprehensive plan for securing funds to construct buildings for Primary Health Sub-Centres (PHSCs), Primary Health Centres (PHCs), and Community Health Centres (CHCs) that currently lack adequate infrastructure.
The meeting also focused on the high prevalence of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) such as Diabetes Mellitus (DM), Hypertension, and Cancer in the state.
The state NCD team has been tasked with recommending preventive and curative measures to address these health issues effectively, while state-level officers and store officers were advised to adopt a flexible allocation system for supplying drugs from the state warehouse to the districts.
They were instructed to ensure the proper use of the DVDMS portal for the allocation and distribution of drugs to meet the specific requirements of the districts.
The meeting reaffirmed the state government's commitment to improving healthcare services and addressing the unique challenges faced by the valley districts.
The measures discussed and the directives issued aim to ensure equitable access to quality healthcare for all residents in these areas.
