Unclaimed bodies start causing health hazard: SDPO

Recalling the order of the Supreme Court of India for disposal of unclaimed deceased within a week, Sugnu SDPO (Head of the SIT 1) Ng Anthony Suresh has stated that there are dead bodies lying at JNIMS mortuary, Porompat which are causing health hazard.
Ng Anthony informed that one unknown male dead body was recovered from Serou Makha Leikai on May 29 and conducted post mortem examination at JNIMS mortuary on June 01.However, the deceased was later identified as Paochon (42) son of (L) Ngulseithang of Sanagikot Village as per the letter received from SP Churachandpur on October 11, 2023 .
On June 2, another three unknown deceased i.e., one remnants of fully burnt and charred body parts suspected to be human, were found from H Gamnom Village, bone remnants of a suspected burnt human body wwere found from the campus of Christian English School, Langching village and bone remnants of another suspected burnt human body from the paddy field located to the north of Langching village and conducted post mortem at the spot.
On July 20, post mortem examinations on the said three unknown deceased were re-conducted.
The bone remnants of the said three unknown deceased are still lying at JNIMS mortuary, Porompat, Imphal East after post mortem examination for identification and handing over to their family members.
However, the said three unknown deceased have not been identified nor claimed by any family members and relatives till date, he informed, while adding that the deceased were lying at the mortuary, causing health hazard and reiterated that the Supreme Court of India has also directed for disposal the unclaimed deceased within a week.
