Imphal, October 05 2020:
Congress party is fully prepared for the by-elections scheduled on November 7 as well as the general election which is likely to be held in the early part of 2022, claimed MPCC president M Okendro.
Altogether 37 members of Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) Manipur unit, Kishan Cell president Thangkholal Baite, vice-president, general secretary and executive members have joined Congress party and they were accorded a warm reception at Congress Bhavan here today.
Speaking at the gathering, Okendro reminded that Congress party won majority of the Assembly seats of Churachandpur district most of the time.

Although the public gave their mandate to Congress party, a few elected representatives, driven by their own selfish motives, switched allegiance to other parties.
The ex-MLA of Singngat AC was one such MLA.
He resigned from Congress party fearing disqualification from the Manipur Legislative Assembly, Okendro said.
Following his resignation, people of Singngat AC have been left without any elected leader thereby compounding the misery caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
It is rather disappointing that the particular man who was elected on Congress ticket betrayed the trust of his own electors by switching allegiance to another party in pursuit of his own personal interest, the MPCC president berated.
People have lost faith in the BJP-led Governments of both the Centre and the State.
That was why, many supporters of BJP and their allies have left their camp and joined Congress party, he claimed.
He accused BJP of preaching one thing and practising something totally contradictory or incongruent.
Congress party has been working to field candidates who would stand firmly for the people and the party in the forthcoming by-elections as well as for the next general election, Okendro said.
Noting that the ADC election is also not far off, the MPCC president said they would fight the trend of selection rather than election as seen in hill areas of the State.
Congress party would make all efforts to minimise the practice of electing representatives at gun point, he said.
MPCC vice-president Dr Kh Ratankumar, T Mangibabu, Mangcha Thangzawan and many others were also present at the reception function.
