2135 out of 2406 ILP violators pushed back

Aizawl, April 05 2017:
As many as 2406 non-tribals have been apprehended by Mizoram police from January 2016 to March 2017 for misusing and violating the provision of Inner Line Permit (ILP) System.
Of these, 2135 people have been pushed back to neighbouring Assam.
Home Department officials said that Mizoram police had conducted raid at several places to find out ILP violators in the last year during which 2338 people have been apprehended for "illegally" living in Mizoram without valid ILP and misusing the same.
Out of these, 2088 people were pushed back from Mizoram and were sent to their native places in Assam on police escort.
During the past three months of 2017, various police stations within Aizawl continued ILP raid and arrested 68 people for violation of Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation, 1873.Of these, 48 people were convicted by a local Court and were pushed back to neighbouring Assam, while 20 people were released again after being produced before Court.
Mizoram police has issued statements several times over ILP in which they said that regular raid would be conducted against gross violation of ILP.
They also appealed to all sponsors on non-tribals concerned to ensure that the people employed by them should have valid ILP and also asked ILP holders to do only the works permitted in their ILP.
