Imphal, September 04 2024:
Tension once again gripped Jiribam after armed Kuki militants burnt the house of a retired Meitei police officer at Jakuradhor, under Borobekra sub-division early morning today.
The house belonged to retired OC of Borobekra police station, Sinam Bipin.
The family had vacated the property following previous violence in the district.
The incident occurred at around 3.30 am.
Reportedly, the residence lies close to the Hmar-dominated Pherzawl district and is 28 kilometres from Jiribam District Headquarters.
The fresh arson took place despite an agreement between representatives of the Meitei and Hmar communities to restore normalcy and prevent further arson during a meeting held on August 1 at a CRPF facility in Assam's Cachar district.

The meeting was moderated by Jiribam district administration, Assam Rifles, and CRPF, and it included representatives from the Hmar, Meitei, Thadou, Paite, and Mizo communities of Jiribam.
Meanwhile, the Federation of Civl Society Organisations (FOCS), Manipur has vehemently condemned the incident.
It said the Central Paramilitary Forces deployed in Jiribam and Security Advisor, Kuldeip Singh should bear the responsibility of the arson.
Jiribam is a strategic location on which the survival of the State depends.
There are ongoing efforts by the Chin-Kuki-Zo to control the Imphal-Jiribam Highway, said FOCS. Even as there are thousands of Central security forces deployed in Jiribam district, Meitei houses have been burnt at Borobekra subdivision.
They have failed to protect and safeguard the properties of the eitei people.
They should leave Manipur, FOCS said.
Further, Security Advisor Kuldeip Singh should resign from his post for his failure, it added.
