Moijing locals clarify

Locals of Thoubal Moijing, Thoubal Mayum Leikai have threatened to launch intense forms of agitation if the two innocent persons arrested on July 1 in connection with the death of Md Abdul alias Rahaman of Moijing Chingya Khunou are not released unconditionally within 24 hours.
Speaking to reporters at Manipur Press Club, a local identified as Najiruddin Imam Shah said that the two persons identified as Jakawur Rahaman (34) and his brother Athilar Rahaman s/o of Badur Rahaman were not involved in the death of Md Abdul alias Rahaman.
They did not take part in the anti-drug drive conducted on the day as well, he said and added that both of them are police personnel.
He clarified that the allegation levelled against them was baseless.
Najiruddin also threatened to launch intense agitations by the local if the duo are not freed within 24 hours unconditionally.
He also said that they would even carry out mass court arrest protest if the Government fails to take up steps within the given deadline.
Najiruddin said that locals of Thoubal Mayum Leikai have been conducting drives against sale of drugs and thieves since the past two years.
Some six months back, they caught two persons while injecting drug.
However, they were handed over to their families after giving some punishments and necessary advice.
On June 29, batteries from the earth moving machinaries provided by the Chief Minister for the construction of a playground were found stolen, he said.
Acting on a tip off, the locals rounded up the same two persons who were detained six months back.
During the course of interrogation, the duo revealed that they stole the batteries, Najiruddin said.
They also told the locals that they had sold it to buy heroin number 4 from one Naha Ithoi of the same locality.
After getting this information, the locals raided the house of Naha Ithoi and found some youth buying heroin while others consuming drugs, he added.
A scuffle broke between the locals and drug addicts in their bid to escape from the locals.
Later, Naha Ithoi was taken to the Masjid and given necessary advice.
The next morning, villagers of Moijing Chingya Khunou announced using loud speakers that Md Abdul alias Rahaman (47) s/o Habizuddin was beaten to death by three persons of Thoubal Moijing Thoubal Mayum Leikai.
Moijing Chingya villagers also tried to dismantle the houses of these three persons.
However, police prevented them, he added.
Later, Moijing Chingya Khunou villagers fired several rounds of gunshots towards Thoubal Moijing Thoubal Mayum Leikai, he said.
