Imphal, June 04 2020:
Health Minister L Jayantakumar has announced that retrofitting of UNACCO School, Meitram is almost complete and a COVID-19 dedicated hospital would start functioning at the school within the next two/three days.
Jayantakumar was speaking at a function held at the office of Medical Directorate, Lamphelpat today where ambulances were handed over to Kamjong and Kangpokpi districts.
He said that the Health Department has been working hard to instal/provide necessary equipment, manpower and medicines for the dedicated hospital which would come up at UNACCO School shortly.
It is speculated that 30,000 to 40,000 Manipuris are still living in other States of the country.
The Chief Minister, Ministers and officials of Health Department have already discussed about what should be done if the Manipuris still living outside the State come back, Jayantakumar said.
After handing over two Boleros to the CMOs of Kamjong and Kangpokpi, the Health Minister said that the Boleros should be used as ambulances for transportation of COVID-19 patients and other COVID-19 related works.
He informed that 7/8 other Boleros which should be allotted to other districts are enroute to Imphal.
Jayantakumar said that one Bolero each was given to the CMOs of Kakching and Pherzawl.
Phungyar AC MLA K Leishiyo who was also present at the gathering said that Kamjong district being a newly created district is still very backward in terms of healthcare facilities and it does not have any district hospital.
With limited number of quarantine centres manned by limited number of doctors coupled with pathetic road infrastructure, Kamjong district has been facing a very difficult situation in tackling the COVID-19 pandemic, Leishiyo said.
So far, around 1200 residents of Kamjong district have returned from outside the State and around 4500 others are expected in the coming days, he added.
