Imphal, October 03 2024: The death toll of the inter-village clash between Hundung (Hungpung) and Ukhrul (Hunphun) has reached four after one individual succumbed to bullet injury at JNIMS Hospital this morning.

Meanwhile Chief Minister N Biren has appealed to all stakeholders to support the Government's endeavour to bring peace and normalcy.

Altogether 21 persons who sustained bullet injuries in violent clashes were brought to Imphal last night and they were admitted to RIMS Hospital and JNIMS Hospital.

Of the 21 injured persons brought to Imphal, one succumbed to injuries at around 8.40 am today at JNIMS Hospital (Male Surgical ICU) and the dead body has been deposited at JNIMS morgue for post mortem.

The deceased has been identified as YR Pamreiyo 35 s/o (L) YR Phillip of Hundung.

According to information received from JNIMS Hospital, YR Pamreiyo was brought by family members from Ukhrul to JNIMS Emergency Casualty for medical treatment with bullet injuries on his left hand and abdomen.

As his condition was serious, he was referred to Male Surgical ICU for further treatment but he succumbed to the injuries today morning at around 8.40 .

Of the remaining 20 persons who sustained bullet injuries, 10 are presently undergoing treatment in different wards of RIMS hospital and some of them are stated to be in serious condition.

The other 10 are undergoing treatment in different wards of JNIMS Hospital.

Meanwhile, the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) has declared three days' mourning.

Chief Minister N Biren has expressed profound pain and sorrow over the violent clash in and around Ukhrul district headquarters on Wednesday which resulted in the death of four persons including one MR personnel and injuries to many.

According to a statement issued by the Chief Minister through the Home Department on Wednesday night, all possible steps have been taken up by the district administration, district police and security forces to control the situation.

The administration with the support of local MLAs have also been looking after the injured persons and their families.

Ex-gratia and financial assistance as per the extant scheme of the State Government will be extended to the families of the deceased and to the persons injured.

"I have ordered that the financial assistance for immediate requirements of the affected families be released by the State Government.

The distribution has already started", N Biren said.

All injured are being assisted by the Government to get proper treatment in Imphal as well as in Ukhrul, he added.

"I look forward to support from all stakeholders, including general public, public leaders and civil society organizations, to the State Government in its endeavours to bring peace and normalcy, as well as to avoid recurrence of such incidents in future", the Chief Minister stated.

He added that the State Government remains committed to resolve any issue with dialogue and mutual understanding, while assuring the general public that those found guilty of inciting violence shall not be spared.
